30 Days About Me (Day 1)

Favorite Song...

Here we go, this is me attempting to get back into blogging. It has been quite a long time since I was a regular visitor here at Infectious Chatter. So day 1 is favorite song. This is probably the hardest question someone could ask me. If you know me personally you know that I am one of the most indecisive people on the planet. ("Do I want a white radio to match the kitchen or a brown one to blend with the walls? Or I could get a black one and be contemporary, hum, but maybe off white seems a bit more classic...") Yeah that's about how every decision in my life goes.

How in the heck do I narrow down my favorite when I generally like almost every song I hear?

I grew up in a very musical family. My mom always sang in the church choir. My dad is a drummer, I remember dancing to his beats as a little girl in our garage. I have played the piano forever, and still turn to those lovely ivory keys whenever my heart needs a release. Music is like poetry, it heals, comforts and soothes whatever mood you may be in.

Favorite artist is a little easier: Adele, Dixie Chicks, Evanescence, Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean, Jason Mraz, Lady Antebellum, Metallica, Mumford & Sons, Muse, OneRepublic, Regina Spektor and many many more. Yup I am all over the map!

Of course there are the classic favorite songs that re-create a moment in time:
Our 1st dance as husband and wife Etta James "At Last"
Lyrics painted on the walls of my kids nursery Dixie Chicks "Godspeed"

I tend to be drawn to slow melodic tunes. They're more fun and emotional to learn on the piano. Here are a few songs I have played over and over on my iPod:

Jeff Buckley "Hallelujah"
Adele "Someone Like You"
Jason Mraz "Life is Wonderful"
Miranda Lambert "The House That Built Me"

I guess I really didn't answer the question of what is my favorite song. Tomorrow it will be another set of songs I favor, but such is the way of music. It is ever changing and always just what you need at that moment.

It's That Time of Year Again!!

I love the Christmas season. The house looks so warm & cozy decorated with red, green and gold all over. The kids are on their best behavior anticipating Santa's arrival. Oh and the smells! sugar cookies, festive candles, chimney's burning firewood, gingerbread houses, and the chill in the air.

What is your favorite part of this magical time of year?

I will admit I have one thing that I don't enjoy... The crowded malls and shops! My goodness, people can be vicious out there. This makes me get my Christmas shopping done early so as to avoid the crazy people that come out of the woodwork, ha ha.

Have a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!!

Peace Found

Our lives have so many different paths and moments to choose from. For me there have been 2 distinct paths lately: On one hand there was fast paced, ladder climbing, excitement, money making, consumerism. On the other hand was slowed pace, quiet, simplicity, doing with less.

17 months ago I convinced my husband to change his job location for a more exciting, better paying position. We left "small town America" for the exciting city life. It was fun and the new position allowed my husband to be home more often. But the fast pace of life didn't seem to mesh well with our family. We longed for walks on wooded paths and quiet star filled evenings. 14 months later we packed up everything, leaving the city behind to return to what I thought would be a more boring existence.

Moving back to the small, simple life this time around has brought a fresh perspective of what's important. I don't long for busy, loud, ever changing days. I find solace in the cool still mornings, in the forest adventures my kids and I now share.

I am often amazed at how ones perspective can change so drastically just by having a clearer view. I know this post means nothing to some of you, heck, I may even have confused some of you completely! But to me this new found peace is everything these days. My children and I have started a huge vegetable garden, I am pondering getting a few chickens (who doesn't want farm fresh eggs all the time?!) and life is slow. The key here is for once in my life I am truly content. My little piece of heaven is right where I am. It's silly, all this moving and changing to come right back where I started...

This is not just a moment in my life to be missed or cherished, it is everything coming full circle and finally making sense.

Yes my blogging has been effected by these changes, but it's because I am soaking it all in and trying my best not to miss one single moment!

Practice Makes Perfect

The Buckeye Bolts... The cutest little flag football team you've ever seen :) These little guys practice Monday through Friday and I have yet to hear them complain! My munchkin is sure enjoying having his daddy on the field too. Season kick off is this Saturday, wish us luck!

Be prepared, I have a million pictures so far and the games haven't even started!! I seriously need someone to come over and help me get caught up on my scrap booking. I used to be so good at keeping up with all the memories. The kids got bigger and life got more demanding. I guess that's why I started this blog :)

My mom and dad will be flying out to see the munchkins first scrimmage. He is VERY excited. So I am off to clean my messy house since "real people" are going to see the inside. *eek*

I Went To The Movies... Alone!

I have never been to a movie theater alone, but today I changed that. I have been waiting for "Julie & Julia" to come out and was so excited to see it this morning! Some girly movies I can talk my hubby into seeing. (If there's a kung fu fight scene in between the make out sessions *ugh*) But this movie I knew he would not go for. So off I went, and I am SO glad I did. I loved this movie!!

Meryl Streep's hilarious impersonation of The French Chef, Julia Child is amazing. And Amy Adams is as sweet as ever.

It's about Julie Powell's attempt to cook her way through Child's culture-changing cookbook in her Queens, New York tiny apartment. Then flashes back to Child's years in France struggling to learn French and write a cookbook that taught America "Bon appetit!"

I am not a very good cook, most days I don't even like to cook. But this movie made me want to come home put on an apron and whip up something extravagent! (OK... I came home and ate popcorn, almost the same. Right?)

One of the coolest things about this movie is it is the first major motion picture that started off as a blog. I loved that. This was a wonderful "feel good" flick. I'm glad I took my lame, lonely self to see it :)

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend. Oh and Bon appetit!

Others Who Chatter... Storm Trooper Wine Bar

There are times when I am reading blogs that I stumble upon a post I just HAVE TO SHARE. Do you ever have those moments? "Wow, this is such a great idea (or tip, or advice, or whatever) I wish it was on my blog!" Well, I am going to put some of them on here from time to time. *with permission of course*

My good friend Rosie at Vino Bodega had a post the other day I HAD TO SHARE! Nothing fancy, just a simple picture:

Aww, nothing like a bit of Star Wars geeky goodness mixed with a good Cabernet :) Thanks Rosie for sharing this great picture with us.

When Bloggers Collide

I had the chance to spend some time with 2 wonderful women, who happen to also be bloggers you might now. (and if you don't know them, you should!)

*A day at the water park with Kate from Kate's Musings*

Our kids had such a great time splashing, sliding, and giggling at a cute little county water park. Can you imagine four kids ages 2, 4, 5, and 6 running around and us without our hubby's?? The day turned out to be a great success with a few margaritas thrown in for good measure :) Thank you Kate for driving down to visit and for the wonderful conversation. Let's for sure do it again.

*Myrtle Beach with Stacey from Mom Taxi*

My munchkins were so excited to meet up with their old buddies from school last year. It was wonderful to see them all so easily fall right back into being best friends. While us mommies chatted and caught up, the kids went on rides, fed fish, and laughed... a lot! Thank you Stacey for staying at the beach a bit longer, I had such a good time. Miss you already.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

July Featured Blogger: Yaya Stuff

Alicia over at "Yaya Stuff" is one of the first people I started following. Her heart is so big and her smiles are infectious. This girl has a lot on her plate and is sweet enough to take us with her on her journey to be a mommy. I have learned so much about the adoption process reading her posts all the way back with her 1st Adoption Class to now where they hopefully will have a little one (or 2, or 3, or 4...) running around their Casa soon!

Sometimes things get frustrating having to deal with home visits and trying to get your hubby's attention (if you have not seen this video, you HAVE TO WATCH! I giggled so hard watching this I almost peed!!!)

So to combat life's issues she makes you laugh at them. She does these weekly Friday posts that CRACK ME UP! And sometimes a drink helps too *cheers girly!*

This lady is first class and I hope you head on over to her place, Yaya Stuff, show her some love and tell her Lizzie sent you.

Oh Alicia... Don't forget to grab your prize!!! And hun, you didn't win this just because you like orange ;)

End of a Long Summer Day

What do you do at the end of a long day?

Some soak in a bubbly tub (not me, kids would jump in with snorkel gear!) Some rest in a comfy chair with a book (nope, hubby would remind me of the pants he needs clean for work tomorrow!) Some would play a fun game of catch with their kids (i wish! The dogs always run in and steal the ball!)

So... what's this mom to do on a LONG summer day, when I have cleaned the house top to bottom, my munchkins have struck every nerve I have and the dogs keep barking at God knows what?!?

You pop open a bottle of Corona, add a lime, put on a kids movie (so they'll actually leave me alone for once today!!!) and catch up on some blog reading :)

June Featured Blogger: MOM TAXI

Want to meet someone super cool? Well then head on over to Mom Taxi and say hello to my dear friend Stacey! She's fairly new to blogging, but has quickly learned her way around the blogsphere.

(our girls snuggling together)

First of all she has ADORABLE kids! We used to live just up the road from this cute family. Many warm southern afternoons were spent with these guys.We were so sad to leave them when we moved across country :(

(our boys on a bike ride)

Stacey might seem like your average mom, but what you don't know is she is secretly a super hero! NO JOKE! She does it all and still manages to have a warm home cooked meal on the table each night. She knows how to have a good time too! Check out this great looking vacation they recently took. WOW, fun and educational. Oh and, she is a Twilight fan, see her post here, and no one can argue with a vampire lovin' woman now can they?

(Stacey & I after a few too many drinks!)

So there you have it. This month I am highlighting a great person you should really get to know. I miss seeing her everyday, and wish we lived near one another again. But, thanks to the wonderful world of bloggy land I get to keep in touch and see her kiddies grow!

Stacey, don't forget to grab your new award!

Sometimes I Question Myself...

Goodness, I complained about not getting any questions and you all delivered! I had a blast answering these :) Enjoy! There's a special treat at the end of this post!

Carrie @ Martin Manor Happenings: How would you spend a million dollars if you won it?
First make a "rainy day" fund in the event of an emergency, then pay off all our family's debt. Then fully fund both munchkins college funds, add a chunk to retirement. Then, I would travel (with my entire family; grandma, uncle, the works!) to the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island and drink a million fruity drinks with umbrellas!!

Melissa @ Spoiled Mommy:
Whats your daily schedule?
It's summer know so there's less going on. I wake up, put on my gym clothes and head out with the munchkins. 2 hours of sweating my butt off then it's time to come home, have a snack and play with the kids. Then lunch time and maybe a trip up to the community pool or something. Then it's nap time! yes, even for my 6 year old. I am going to get a nap out of these kids as long as they go along with it :) While they sleep I clean the house for a few hours. Daddy comes home, we have dinner, watch some TV as a family and then have story time and off to bed!

Weakness, what's yours?
Geez, I don't know! On a positive I could say my hubby is my weakness, this man can get me to do anything, ha ha! See how crazy I am about him? On a negative my weakness would have to be the new found bugs I have to deal with since our move... Scorpions! They seriously freak me out!! Oh and kryptonite, of course.

Mimi @ He & Me + 3
: What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas! It's such a great time of year, people stop what they're doing and really think about the baby boy born in a manger and seem to be nicer. I love doing the nativity calendar with my munchkins and sharing what happened on that magical night with them. I also love decorating the house, think Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation!

What camera do you shoot with?
Casio Exilim 7.2 mega pixels, from Target. Purchased while on vacation because I seem to always leave my camera at home, hey it's better than forgetting underwear.

Ever had an surgeries?
Um, yeah! Double hernia, Tonsillectomy, and a TON of mouth surgery after my jet ski accident (bad memories, let's not go there...) and I am sure I am leaving something out, oh well.

Lola @ Lola's Diner: If you could be any animal, what would you be?
Those who have been reading here for awhile might remember my plea to save the Gray Wolf HERE (howling to be heard) and HERE(good-bye dear wolf). I have always loved Wolves, so loyal and yet quite mysterious. They have families they look after and seem to never get the respect I think they deserve. For sure if I could be an animal it would be a Wolf.

Patty @ Photography: A Reflection and Refraction: What is your middle name?
Arlene, I was named after my grandmother :)

My Mom, Tina: I love what E @ Scottsville had to say!
Can I be your "Fairy Blogmother"?
For sure Mom, you can always be my "fairy blogmother" or anything else you want to be for that matter :)

Leslie @ JAM's Own Reality:
How did you meet your husband? Was it love at first sight?
I showed him my boobs one night at a bar. What? Isn't that how everyone meets the love of their life? And yes, we gazed into each others glossed over, blurry eyes and knew we were meant to be!

Do you think you would like to have more kids?
Some days I want another munchkins SO BADLY! Then I have days were the kids are driving me nuts, the puppy is peeing all over the house, the laundry is piled to the ceiling, and my hubby and I aren't getting along and I say "No way Jose!"

Stacey @ Mom Taxi: If you could travel back in time Where and When would you go?
I would travel to England in the early nineteenth century (specifically between 1810-1817.) To the time of Jane Austen, formal gatherings, courtship, Travels to Bath and Southampton, and amazing literature. Oh man, now I really wish I could do time travel!!

If you could be president for ONE day what would you do? What laws would you pass?
I would make full figured women be the standard first of all. And have all super skinny boney models thrown in jail. Shush, I can do that! I'm the president remember? Then I would pass a law that would make it incredibly hard to remove an animal from the endangered species list. And lastly I would take some of the governments power away. Let the states handle more of their problems and have "big brother" leave their nose out of it.

Alicia @ Yaya Stuff: If you could have a superpower what would it be, and what would your superhero name be? But most importantly, what would your superhero costume look like?
Oh this is great, the geek in me will get to shine :) I would for sure choose Power Mimicry as my superpower (the ability to copy or absorb another's powers or skills) Similar to
Rogue from "xmen." My name would be... Hum, maybe chatter-girl! and my costume would look like this: (notice she has a cell phone in her hand? perfect!)

What's the best day of your life so far?
I could say my wedding day, but you know what? I was a nervous wreck! I could also say the day both my munchkins were born... The truth, yes it was amazing, but I was in pain people!!! So I am going to say my families vacation to Hilton Head Island last year. It was wonderful, everything went perfect. I will treasure that week for years and years to come.

You want more questions? OK, Is your favorite color orange?
Actually Orange is one of my favorite colors! We are HUGE Clemson Tiger fans around our house. Purple and Orange Baby! Often at least one member in the family is decked-out in orange to show our love of our old South Carolina stomping grounds.

Aimee @ Journey2Learn: If you had to choose the single most valuable thing you ever learned, what would it be?
Maybe that we need to live our life as if our kids are always watching. Be the example you want them to be. This is a tough question!

Anissa @ Our Chaotic Life: What is your favorite time of year and why?
I can tell ya I am not too fond of crazy hot desert summers! I love the other 3 seasons though! Winter(Christmas, my birthday, SNOW, skiing, snuggling to keep warm) Spring(new growth, sweet flower smells, cool breezes, outdoor activities) Fall(all the warm colors, leaf piles, getting ready for school to start)

If you could go any where in the world -- where would you go and why?
Well as mentioned above and in this post HERE I would love to stay at The Atlantis on Paradise Island! But since we are in the land of imaginary, let's get a little more exotic shall we. I would LOVE to visit Greece, like the places filmed in Mama Mia!

And as a special surprise I put all the names into a hat that asked a question and let my mini-munchkin pull out 1 name to win my coveted "I'm Cool" award and be this months featured blogger on my blog! The person selected was...

Stacey @ Mom Taxi! So Chick, take this awesome award and put it on your blog, I will be doing a feature on you this coming week!

No Questions? Really?

Alrighty everyone. I have extended the window of opportunity by one more day. Meaning hardly anyone has asked questions they want to know about me! Does that mean I talk to much and y'all already know everything? That can't be, so come on ask away, you know you want to!

Plus don't forget I just had my blogiversary and this is all I asked for :(

Hey You! Yeah You! You are SO Awesome!!

WOW! I have officially been blogging for 1 year! I am shocked, I really didn't think I would make it this long. Nor did I expect to LOVE it so much :) It all started when my friend Kate over at Kate's Musings got me interested in this unknown world of blogging. Thanks dear!

What started as a simple way for me to get my "geek fix" and keep my distant family informed about my munchkins has morphed into so much more. I even convinced my friend Stacey at
Mom Taxi to join in!

I never knew I would meet so many wonderful woman out in the blog-sphere. I never knew I'd be rooting and praying for a girl named Alicia over at
Yaya Stuff to have a child, I never knew I'd learn to enjoy every bit of life like Jen at Under the Big blue sky and Pam over at You're Gonna Miss This. I never knew that typing out my daily trials and tribulations would become the best form of therapy imaginable.

I have a great online weight loss buddy over at
Diaries of a Coach's Wife. And I can't wait to clink wine glasses with Melissa over at Spoiled Mommy. The list goes on and on and on, you all mean so much to me. THANK YOU!

There will be an awesome giveaway soon, but I lost track of time (go figure) and I am not quite ready yet, sorry!!!
So in honor of "Infectious Chatter" turning 1 I have decided to do what my friend Tressa over at American in Norway did and let you ask whatever you want to ask me. Anything you've wondered about myself or my family, or the dogs, or fish... whatever! Questions must be submitted by Friday @ midnight Disneyland time.

*hint* There might be something special for those who ask great questions!

Have a wonderful day and thanks again for listening to me ramble on for an entire year :)

(ALSO: Anissa at Our Chaotic Life showed me how to make a blog button for my blogiversary, you'll find it over on the right side bar or just below! Grab it if you like. Thanks!)

Award Time!!

I am so far behind on giving these blog awards out, SORRY!!

About a hundred years ago The Scattered Mind of a Tattooed Minivan Mom bestowed upon me this lovely blog award:

I now pass this onto
My Secret Blog (what's more creative then a made up personality??)
Mygoodness (she is so crafty. I want some of her bean bags!!)

*************************************************************************************

Then in a distant time far far away Under The BIG blue sky and Random thoughts of a mother of 2 sent me this great award that looks pretty... but who knows what it says :)

I now pass this onto
Life Just Keeps Getting Weirder (she makes me laugh so hard that sometimes I forget where I am)
Spoiled Mommy (her kids do some silly stuff, need a shot of coke?)

*************************************************************************************

And the last blog award of the evening came to me while I was driving across the US from K...Not your Average Girl

I pass this on to
Open seven days a week. Closed Sundays (look at her profile picture. How could I not give her the fabulous award?)
Kate's Musings (she kept her cool moving her family with such grace, way to go!)

OK, so I finally passed my awards on! I hope you take a moment to check out some of these wonderful blogs.
