Sunday Signspotting: week six

The weather is amazing, I think the kids and I might go for a nature walk and see what we can find!

(Please be aware that I did not take these pictures, i am simply surfing the net on various funny sign websites and putting them here for your viewing pleasure)

Please make sure you are using the correct lady.

Now here's a recipe for disaster. Looks like the producers of "Survivor" are working on a project the whole city can enjoy.

Here's one theory: Maybe "Three Mile Village" was already taken. Or the town was founded before odometers really caught on.

The streets in Wausau are kept so clean you could perform surgery on them. Except for the curb lane, which is typically reserved for the intensive care unit.

All traffic will be temporarily rerouted through Mecca.

If you're looking for Somass, you might try Vancouver Island.

Finally, a restaurant that combines the taste of railway cuisine with the convenience of a stomach clinic. All for a reasonable price.

Role Play

Everyone sees the world in so may different ways, and we all learn differently too. Kids are a great example of this. What we know as absolute, a child can change in a split second. I love their little imaginations. I love the simplicity of their thinking. I love how they can create their own little worlds and live happily in them.

My daughter loves her little Disney princess dolls. She can play in her room for long periods of time dressing and undressing them, making up stories with them. One theme has been constant in her little role playing... polygamy and bestiality. I can just hear you know "WHAT!?" Ha Ha, did I get your attention yet?

Let's meet the characters in this play:

Belle (she is always the one with no clothes on and HATES when the Beast spends all his time with other girls.)

The Beast (he obviously is the stud in the bunch, he more or less just lays around while the girls play dress up and dance.)

Aurora a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty (she is the Beasts other girlfriend, he spends most of the time with her.)

Of course there is nothing wrong with this role playing, it is completely innocent. No need for therapy here. But the mom in me wants to look deeper. Does Audrey believe these truths? That women like to look their best, that wives get jealous if our husbands spend too much time with other women, that men sit around a lot while women hop from place to place, that skinny blondes catch the eye of some men... Hum, where do they learn this stuff? Are we as women born with these feeling? I never thoughts so, but now I am not so sure.

I simply wanted to point out how we all see things a different way. And how silly my daughter is. How amazing it is to be able to look at the world threw a child's eye. Have a good Saturday and we'll talk soon.

Can Anyone Hear Me?

I am losing my voice... again. Anyone who knows me knows that this is a common occurrence. Growing up with "throat issues" it never has bothered me having a habitual sore throat or losing my voice frequently. I guess it's just one of those things we all have to learn to live with. Yes, I've run the course of doctors tests, surgery, yadda, yadda, yadda. Really it's just the way I am, I except that.

But now that I have children at an age where communication is so important it has become quite a nuisance. I call them to dinner, they don't hear me. I try to get their attention for anything and they don't hear me. These throat issues have become obnoxious to say the least. Wouldn't it be amazing if there was someone you could go to with a medical problem and they could fix it?! Oh well, I will sip my warm green tea on the back porch tonight trying to whisper loudly "Zane, don't push your sister down the slide! Audrey, quit tying the dog up with jump ropes!" while no one hears me and continues doing whatever it is they shouldn't.

Lego Stormtroopers

I found these images on flickr and thought I would share them with you. Just too funny! So in honor of my Star Wars obsessed son (who plays the Lego game ALL the time) here is some Storm Trooper education:

The Tough Life of a Storm Trooper (yes, I am aware I am a dork. Why do you ask?)

Such a sunny day, seems a shame to spend it traveling on the Imperial transports.

Chewie and a few unfortunate Lego stormtroopers who had a bad day.

After successfully neutralizing the Rebel presence in the romantic flower-filled field, TK-433 and TK-562 realize there's more to life than serving the Empire.

The Lego stormtrooper command discovers some new technology.

Things have been a bit rough since the fall of the Empire.

Not all Stormtroopers did so badly after the fall of the Empire. TK-754 now owns a moderately successful washing machine spares supply business on Coruscant.

A Reverse Strip Tease Act

My daughter can come up with some funny things. Today while playing in the backyard in only her underpants she decided she needed to find a place to hold her $1 bills.

Here's how it went down:

Audrey
"Mommy, where am I going to put my money? I don't have any pockets on my underpants!"

Me
"Well honey, you'll figure out something"

Audrey
"Oh I know, I'll put them IN my underpants! That's a great way to hold things!"

Me
"Whatever sweet heart, have fun..."

At this point Zane comes over and starts bugging her (as always) and she proceeds to pull out wads of cash from her undies to throw at him. After she empties her underpants she runs inside huffing and puffing to put some clothes on.

I am so proud, at least I know she won't make a good stripper!! Wait, maybe the men would rather the girls threw money at them... AAAAAAAAAHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Okay, I'm off to teach my daughter the importance of becoming a smart and successful woman.

Sunday Signspotting: week five

Oh, it has been a long week, I am ready for some laugh!s

(Please be aware that I did not take these pictures, i am simply surfing the net on various funny sign websites and putting them here for your viewing pleasure)

Take Crop Patterns 101, study advance spacecraft sightings, and take field trips to Area 51. Actually, truth be told, it's a dental school in Albania.

Here's an inviting dental practice in China. From the looks of it, they could be a little more liberal with the painkiller.

Looks like it may be time to change the town's name.

Finally! A head-smashed-in buffalo jump that complies with the Disability Discrimination Act and has a pay phone.

That's an order, not an invitation.

Yes, let's! One suspects this warning is completely baffling in Chinese, too.

The good people of New Orleans provide a range of fun activities to amuse any leader of the Roman Catholic Church who happens to pass through.

Families Rock!

As you may have noticed I have not been blogging as much the last few days. I have been feeling under the weather. I made the mistake of coming off a heavy dose of medication I have been taking for the last year without doctor supervision (which you should not do by the way) and it kicked my butt! Seriously, I have been like a dizzy, confused, zombie the last few days. Makes you wonder what goes into some of the medication we take.

Any how, through this tough time my mom has been worried about her "baby girl". When she found out I passed out home alone with the kids 2 days ago she had enough of sitting on the sidelines. *Cue the superman theme song*
My mom drove 3 hours to help me out, so sweet! Now anyone who knows my mom will say "Oh that's just Tina, she'll drop anything to give a helping hand." But, if you don't know her, this is such a true statement. Here is what she accomplished in just 1.5 days at my house:

2 trips to the grocery store, a mountain of laundry completely washed and put away, scrubbed 2 bathrooms from top to bottom, cleaned the baseboards throughout the house, garbage detail, changed sheets on the beds, dusted the entire house, cleaned ceiling fans, entertained 2 rowdy kids, had a "pony race" with Audrey, emptied the dishwasher and loaded it, played Star Wars with Zane, AND took care of me!

Truly amazing, I can only hope to be half the Superwoman she is. And no, she is not for rent, you can't have her, she's my mom! :)

I also want to acknowledge how super awesome my husband has been as well. Just helping me with the kids when I need it and being a constant shoulder to lean on is such a wonderful gift.

I am anxious to be my old self again and not feel like I spent 5 hours spinning on a tire swing. But hey, you never know, I might come up with some pretty entertaining blog topics while my head isn't screwed on right!

Oh My Aching Back!

I am in pain, I think our bed is out to get me. A few years ago Joe and I purchased one of those "Sleep Number Beds" and it really is cool. He gets to have a rock hard bed, and I get to have a soft fluffy bed. Well, lately the pump thingy (yes, that's the official term, ha ha) hasn't been working quite right and I feel like I've been sleeping on the ground covered in rocks. Sounds comfy huh?

Sure the easy solution would be to give the company a call so they can fix it. But, guess who keeps forgetting to do that during regular business hours? Yup, me. Come bedtime is when I remember. OUCH!

I think tonight I might go sleep in Zane's bed, his is the most comfortable bed in the house. So today I am going to hobble along hunched over trying desperately to conquer the growing laundry mountain that has taken over my life. Please say a little prayer for me today.

The Anti-Bumper Sticker

Let me start by saying that I have nothing but respect for southern history and the role it played in forming this great nation, and the people here are SO nice. With that said...

HOW MANY FREAKING PALM TREE STATE FLAG BUMPER STICKERS DO I HAVE TO SEE BEFORE I DIE!

I know not everyone likes bumper stickers, I do. Or at least I did. They let you know a tiny bit about the driver in front of you, and sometimes even make your day a little brighter. I always felt like whatever I put on the rear of my car was a bit of self expression. A great way to send a message to the world.

Here in South Carolina apparently every driver is saying the same thing "Hi, I live here!" NO WAY!! WOW!! THAT'S AMAZING!!

I know I am sounding quite rude, Sorry, that isn't my intention. I just don't understand why everyone here has the same bumper sticker? Palm tree with a crescent moon, the state flag here in this fine state. You see them in every color, polka dots, camouflage, stripes, every combination possible. I get that people from here are proud, I am extremely proud to be California born and raised. But I don't have a giant CA state flag plastered all over my car, I do however have a sticker supporting the effort to keep Lake Tahoe Blue and clean.

Oh well, I guess it's a stupid thing to worry about, to each his own. If you are from SC could you do me just one favor? Branch out just a little, for me, please? I need something else to look at when I am driving on the highway. Thanks.

I Love You Joe

Instead of "Sunday Signspotting" I have created something for my husband

My friend Sarah just celebrated her wedding anniversary and did a photo memory lane of her relationship with her hubby. I LOVED the idea so much, and being that today Joe and I celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary I thought you'd like to see our "memory lane."

It all started with a Navy boy and a college girl in Charleston, South Carolina. Year 2000. Mutual friends introduced us and a few months later we finally hooked up at a local rock concert. Look at that young and strapping boy! And my goodness I have silly hair! (That was just for the picture, i SWEAR it wasn't like this normally!)

Once we started dating we were with each other 24/7
Here we are in North Carolina for me to meet his family for the first time. Can you tell I am trying my best to not be nervous?

The Navy called Joe away and he moved to Seattle in 2001. I was very sad, but I flew out to see him often...

And when I was finished with College I moved to Seattle too! To be with this studly man of course :) Here we are in front of our first apartment together. I loved that place.

We spent a lot of time hiking and enjoying each others company. In Washington we truly fell in love, it was the beginning of so much more.

Our first child, Louie. He was still a puppy when I returned home from work one day to find this tied to his dog collar. All I could do was jump up and down "Yes! Yes! Yes!"

Our wedding day August 17, 2002
Man am I skinny! I want that body again.

Then "Surprise!" Honeymoon baby. My mom and I headed for my baby shower.

Our little man Zane was born in 2003.

Surprise #2, Audrey, was born in 2004 (How does this keep happening?!?!) God truly knows what we can handle even when we aren't sure.

And then they were 4. Thank you Lord for all you have given me, I am truly blessed.

I could not ask for anything more. Thank you Joe for being such a wonderful husband, loving father, and great best friend. Could we have ever imagined a life like this 8 years ago when we first met? I am honored to be your wife. I love you sweet heart.
