What is it about hot showers that makes a long day just go down the drain and disappear? There is countless evidence of the healing power of water (please, don't make me look it up... I'm tired! Go ahead, google it, i swear there's something there.) But I am still amazed what a little water can do.
I remember water being such a reason for joy as a kid, mention of the beach, sprinkler, or pool and I was there!
As a pregnant woman, water aerobics made even my sorest muscles feel better.
Now as a mom of 2 V E R Y active children I am lucky to get 5 minutes of freedom, let alone a shower!
So tonight I put the kids to bed early after my hubby left for his weekly bowling league and I took a LONG hot shower. Yup, you heard me, uninterrupted bathing! No fingers under the door, no "mommy" being yelled from another room, nothing. Just me, myself and I. (Oh and my razor, poor razor thinks I don't love him anymore because who has time to shave their legs???)
I just stood there, paralyzed, enjoying silence and hot water. I honestly can't remember the last time I was able to wash my hair, shave my legs, and use my scented body wash all in one shower! Now I feel great! I am ready to tackle tomorrow.
Am I the only one who is mesmerized by the healing power of water? OK, now I have spent an entire blog discussing my shower. GOD i need a girls night out!!

Bad Timing For Snot
My mom and I had a fabulous time at Earthling Day Spa on Saturday. The ambiance was so relaxing, although it still didn't completely relax me since I have about 500 million thoughts swirling around in my head at any given time. I did TRY to feel the relaxing vibe, they do a wonderful job there. I guess I am just way too anxious to ever fully succumb to relaxation.
I do have a funny story while attempting to relax though!
While the sweet masseuse made my body feel like jello, I started getting a twinge in my nose. She asked me to flip on my belly and put my hands on the small of my back. She then proceeded to massage my arms. Well, when do you suppose my nose started to run? Imagine snot running down your face and no way to do anything about it. Obviously I was not relaxing, i was freaking out! Talk about bad timing.

Sunday Signspotting: week ten
This weeks Signspotting is a bit shorted then I usually make it, sorry. The full version will be back next week. I am still visiting my parents and am trying to stay off the computer. Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!
(Please be aware that I did not take these pictures, i am simply surfing the net on various funny sign websites and putting them here for your viewing pleasure)
Apparently, it's a long-term parking lot just waiting to happen. Two little questions: Did 20-minute parking fail horribly? And who's timing you?

You're Gonna Miss This Moment...Cupcakes
I LOVED discovering I had captured this moment at my daughters 3rd birthday party last year. Brother and Sister, a bond that can't be broken.

Can I have that cupcake?
I know I still have many more children's birthday parties ahead of me (I hope!) But I am sure going to miss it when the munchkins don't want mommy to do it anymore. I am going to miss seeing their little eyes light up as the cake full of candles enteres the room, and the look on their faces as they rip open a gift in front of their friends. I AM gonna miss this moment.

Getting Centered
One reason I always love coming to my parents house is I always leave feeling "centered," healed, better then when I got here. Call it my mommy therapy. I hope when my kids are adults they will feel that way when coming home.
As you probably figured out, I am visiting my mom and dad this weekend. My hubby is working L O N G shifts (as always) and the kids and I needed a pick me up. Last night the house was filled with laughing children, a silly grandpa, and two chatty women enjoying a glass of wine. My mom won't admit it, but i get the infectious chatter from her :)

Coloring book time with their Pa Pa
Today should be fun, my dad (also known as Pa Pa) will be on munchkin wrangling detail, possibly including a trip to the beach for sandcastle making. My mom and I will be going to Earthling Day Spa for messages and pedicures, thanks mom!
*sigh* It's always nice to come home. We live half a days drive away from them. Since I am not a native southern girl and my family is all out in beautiful California, I am so lucky my kids have some family out here.
For your listening and viewing pleasure my dad (the drummer) and his band Ocean Drive Party Band rockin' out jazz style. Be sure to pause the music player before starting this video.
Enjoy your Saturday!

Need I Say More?
On our last trip to California the munchkins fell in love with a carousel near our hotel in Old Sacramento. My hubby captured these pictures as they rode around on their horses.
Nothing like seeing a child enjoy themselves to put a smile on a grown-ups face. Today I need a smile, not feeling so chipper. Just one of those days, i guess. Enjoy your Wednesday and remember to smile :)

Relaxing
Follow up on my busy Tuesday of getting things done...
So now it is twilight and I am enjoying a glass of cheap wine. (Beringer Wine Zin to bee exact.) The kids are playing in the backyard. My house is all pretty and shiny and Colbie Caillat plays on the radio in the background. I am a happy girl.
Have a good night everyone.

Tackle It Tuesdays 9/23
Today I am going to kick booty and get my house in ship shape...
(I swear, i mean it it this time!) click picture above for details.
How about it girls? Want to prove to our husbands that blogging can actually clean our homes? Consider us accountability partners. Every Tuesday I will post projects I have completed. Look, I'll give you proof that I am actually doing things other then playing on my pretty pink laptop.
Today, I started with the kitchen. Dishes, mopping, clearing the crap from counter tops, you know... the usual kitchen to-do list.
Before and After shots of my kitchen sink area
Well that was an easy one, next I needed to move that mountain of laundry from my master bedroom floor. (I was very scared what I might find in there) And by the way, I didn't "move" it I washed it :)
Before and After shots of our master bedroom
I hope you all have a fun and productive day, thanks for keeping me on track!

You're Gonna Miss this...Moment
"You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this"
~ Trace Atkins
I ran across a blog the other day that had a GREAT idea, showing the "moments" we're going to miss when our munchkins grow older. Click the picture above to check it out and maybe submit your own moment. Or check out Pam's blog via this link: You're Gonna Miss This
Here's mine:
*Mud holes and laughs*
Even our dog Louie got into the action :)
I remember thinking at the time all this was happening "Oh my gosh, look at all that mud I'm going to have to clean off them! Ahhh, and give the dog a bath?! I'm doomed!" But once I took a deep breathe and sat on my nice deck I quit freaking out and let them play till their hearts content.
I know someday this will be a distant memory, and my babies will no longer want to splash in the mud. Thank you Pam for helping me see how many "moments" will be gone too soon and to appreciate every one of them, no matter how dirty, sticky, or crazy they are.

Peace Day... Today
Today is the official day of Peace around the world. Did you know there was such a day? It became an official "holiday" On September 7, 2001. And each year this wonderful day spreads wider around the world.
Today I made a commitment to teach my children about the importance of a day when we all stop and do something, anything, for a peaceful world.
Can you even imagine how wonderful it would be for just ONE DAY guns were put down, and bombs weren't killing innocent people. It makes me feel like there is hope for our troubled world.
Please take a moment to check out the website Peace One Day and watch this video to learn how it all started and what you can do to help bring peace to our world.
"If you build a house you start with one brick. If we want to build peace, why not start with one day? And that day has arrived." -Jeremy Gilley - Founder of Peace One Day

Poor Silly Angel
Today Audrey had minor Oral surgery. She did great, currently she is lounging on the couch watching "Cinderella 3" laying with her favorite pillow and stuffed animal. She was such a trooper this morning.
When the dentist first took us back to the room Audrey was nervous, understandably so. But oh boy, once they gave her the sedation medication it was on. I haven't giggled with my little girl like that in a long time. She had gone to the land of silliness. She kept trying to touch her tongue and then poke her eye instead. Then she began making funny animal noises while sitting upside down. I felt sad she had to have this done, but I was also glad to see her enjoying it quite a bit.
After about an hour it was all done and I carried my floppy, sleepy, silly child back to the car. Now the emotional side has kicked in. She keeps letting out little whimpers for her daddy. She wants a hug from him. (He's working and can't get home till tonight.)
So today will probably be a "TV day" the kids don't get those very often since I don't want their brains to turn to mush. But, I think we'll just veg out and watch movies today. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

My Little Friends
Want to know what I am secretly in love with? My USB Flash Drives!! Yes, I am so romantic. USB flash drives are compact file storage devices to save your information externally, in case you didn't already know that.
You might be asking yourself "Why is she in love with that?" Because I found this company called Mimobot that sells designer ones, and they are beyond cute. The first one I purchased to help keep track of audio files and things bought on iTunes. "Wicket" a Star Wars Ewok, came right to my door, it was love at first sight. Well, I couldn't have just one. "Wicket" needed a friend, and I needed more Drive space for other documents. (Sometimes being a nerdy mom can be so fun.)
So I went back to their website and tried to find the right character for me. Trust me when I say it was a hard decision, I wanted them all. I finally found who I was looking for, "Betty Lou." A Rock-a-billy chic with pink hair.
When she finally arrived at my door I couldn't believe how adorable she was. Her purpose has become holding important word documents, such as emergency information, our monthly budget, and e-mail contacts.
Now you might be wondering why I put all this stuff on external drives. Why not just keep all that stuff on your home computer? Well, after losing WAY too many important files due to computer "issues" I decided never again to be ill prepared for any technological accidents. Now I have these little guys in my laptop case, safe and with me at all times. It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
The last Flash Drive to become a part of my dorky little computer family is "RayD8" He is a happy skeleton, and he glows in the dark! Being that Halloween is coming soon I thought he'd fit in well. His purpose is still unknown, I am thinking possibly irreplaceable photos or just plain added storage.
I fear I have shown too much of my dorky side to you all, please forgive me for loving USB Flash Drives! What is something silly you find totally amusing?

Women in the White House
OK People, I want to know what you think about this Presidential race...
Not so much your political views, but more your view on women emerging more and more towards that Oval office. Many think that women are too emotional, too fragile, too "girly" to run this country, to even be a VP. What do you have to say about this?
I, for one, am so excited to be apart of this time in our nations history. I am positive I will see the first female President before God calls me home. It may not be this election, but I am positive it will happen in my lifetime.
"Throughout most of history women generally have had fewer legal rights and career opportunities than men. Wifehood and motherhood were regarded as women's most significant professions. In the 20th century, however, women in most nations won the right to vote and increased their educational and job opportunities. Perhaps most important, they fought for and to a large degree accomplished a reevaluation of traditional views of their role in society."
-Excert from Women's History In America
Women have come so far in such a short time, take a look:
1850: The first National Women's Rights Convention takes place in Worceser, Mass., attracting more than 1,000 participants. National conventions are held yearly (except for 1857) through 1860.
May 1869: Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton form the National Woman Suffrage Association. The primary goal of the organization is to achieve voting rights for women by means of a Congressional amendment to the Constitution.
Aug. 26, 1920: The 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote, is signed into law by Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby.
1960: The Food and Drug Administration approves birth control pills.
1961: President John Kennedy establishes the President's Commission on the Status of Women and appoints Eleanor Roosevelt as chairwoman. The report issued by the Commission in 1963 documents substantial discrimination against women in the workplace and makes specific recommendations for improvement, including fair hiring practices, paid maternity leave, and affordable child care.
June 19, 1963: Congress passes the Equal Pay Act, making it illegal for employers to pay a woman less than what a man would receive for the same job.
1969: California becomes the first state to adopt a "no fault" divorce law, which allows couples to divorce by mutual consent. By 1985 every state has adopted a similar law. Laws are also passed regarding the equal division of common property.
1973: As a result of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court establishes a woman's right to safe and legal abortion, overriding the anti-abortion laws of many states.
1978: The Pregnancy Discrimination Act bans employment discrimination against pregnant women. Under the Act, a woman cannot be fired or denied a job or a promotion because she is or may become pregnant, nor can she be forced to take a pregnancy leave if she is willing and able to work.
1986: Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson, the Supreme Court finds that sexual harassment is a form of illegal job discrimination.
1994: The Violence Against Women Act tightens federal penalties for sex offenders, funds services for victims of rape and domestic violence, and provides for special training of police officers.
I could add many more things, but I wanted to highlight major milestones for women. Look at all women have done in such a short time! Next we conquer the White House :) I hope you have learned something, and you see what an amazing creature God created when he made woman.
On a lighter note about all this "Women climbing the ladder of life" stuff, I present to you a clip from a recent episode of Saturday Night Live that had me rolling! Enjoy.
